SMCA Chess WORT (Weekly Online Rapid’s Tournament) – 4th Edition – 1st October 2020

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]SMCA has been pioneering new & amazing ways to keep Chess learning fun for kids of all age groups since its inception. We have been running Online Chess classes since 2005 for students abroad but with the current situation it only became relevant to run online lessons for all other students, new & old, as well.

Our Student Raghav Chhaparia from Don Bosco School, Kolkata says, “My experience in SMCA has been amazing. I have moved ahead in chess & Aravind Sir is my favourite. I would truly want to thank him for his efforts in teaching us.” Raghav came in 3rd at the last “SMCA Chess WORT 4th Edition” held on 1st October, he continued quoting his tournament experience, “I was very happy when I came in 3rd in the tournament but I know there is a lot to improve.”

SMCA has started the “SMCA Chess WORT” online chess tournament exclusively for it’s group class students being held on a weekly basis.

A total of 60 kids or ‘Chess warriors’ as we call them participated in the 4th Edition of the tournament hosted on Lichess.org. The kids have been enjoying the weekly tournaments & have been lovely throughout.

“I have had an amazing experience playing the tournament against my chess buddies” says Varghese Chakola from St Mary’s Catholic High School, Dubai (1st Place, SMCA Chess ‘WORT’ 4th Edition).

Our top 3 for the 4th Edition of WORT were:

SMCA’s online learning platform has been a boon for all kids interested in learning.

The tournaments have positively developed passion and a healthy competition between them.

Most importantly they experienced the thrill of playing in chess tournaments alongside many children who love chess with the passion that they share. That in itself is quite validating. However the biggest victory from the event was that each of these children now has a new light in their eye, a new fire in their belly. They want to learn and improve so that next time they score more points and get a podium finish. “It’s great to see the enthusiasm of the children for our tournaments & we hope to continue coaching and guiding them further to help them grow.” says our Tournament Director Mr Balaji Guttula.

Our student Mudit Sonawane from Rabindranath Tagore School of Excellence, Pune defined his tournament experience as, “It’s indeed a very nice experience to be participating in the tournaments as it gives us match practice and the platform (lichess) is just the right tool. These tournaments are helping us to be ready for tournaments at bigger stages eventually”.

The next edition of the tournament shall be held on 8th October 2020 with much more number of participants.

The top 3 winners will get a cash prize for the coming tournament:
  • 1st Place – INR 450/-
  • 2nd Place – INR 300/-
  • 3rd Place – INR 250/-
