Hriday tops Vallabh, Shah to emege U-9 State Champion

Hriday Sheth, a 3rd Standard Student of DY Patil International School added a feather to his cap as he emerged as the best in the State Under -9 Chess Championship 2015 Conducted by the Maharashtra Chess Association along with Thane District Chess Association and which concluded at the St. Lawrence School & Junior College at thane on Monday.

Sheth, a promising player from the South Mumbai Chess Academy, Finished with a tally of 8 Points out of the possible 9. He put up an impressive show by beating higher rated players and causing major upsets. He also defeated multiple state champion and world school champion Vallabh Kavi and Dev Shah in the 7th and 8th Rounds respectively.

The title will now see Hriday officially represent Maharashtra in the U-9 Nationals to be held in Gujarat Soon. Speaking of his Young ward's achievement, his coach Balaji Guttula said "Hriday has come a long way in proving that he is a player to reckon with. He is a most natural and creative chess player and has a knack of coming out of tight situations with creative strategies. He should also excel at the Nationals given his current form and focus"

Hriday was followed by Vallabh Kavi of Pune, who secured Second place with a Score of 7 points.

Amongst girls, Tanisha Bormanikar of Aurangabad secured the first place with 9 points followed by Vincent Alaina of Mumbai with 8 Points.

A total of 185 players strived for the top honours coming together from various districts of Maharashtra. Top five players from each (boys and girls) group of different categories will represent Maharashtra in the next month's 29th National U-9 Chess Championships.
